I am an experienced illustrator & graphic artist with over 20 years experience creating a variety of illustrations and informational graphics for newspapers, magazines, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and interactive CD ROMs. I recieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at The Kansas City Art Institute, and a Master of Fine Arts Degree in illustration from Syracuse University. I also studied at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and The School of Visual Arts in New York City.

As an accomplished illustrator, painter and graphic designer, my work has appeared in a number of media outlets that include Knight-Ridder Tribune, The Record, The Greenville News, Sonic Images/ Enteractive, and Insight. My work, described as creative, informative and easy-to-understand, has earned me State Press Association Awards from New Jersey and South Carolina, as well as Outstanding Communications and Process Improvement Innovation Awards from NASA's GOES-R Satellite program. In addition to being skilled at using traditional artist tools such as pencils, paint and paper, I am also proficient using the following software programs: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Microsoft Powerpoint.

Drawing has been a passion of mine from a very young age. I like creating moods in my work with subtle textures and the occasional absence of some of the little details, thus allowing the viewers imagination to complete the drawing. I love the seemingly empty shadows that using pencil allows me to create.

Over the years I've been inspired by artists and illustrators whose style and creative process I admire. And, while their drawing styles may not be present in my work, I am influenced by their use of color, artistic styles and use of such mediums as pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylic, oil, watercolor and gouache paints. Some of these artist include: Marshall Arisman, John Biggers, Thomas Blackshear, Yvonne Buchanan, A.M. Cassandre (Art Deco), Mary Cassatt, Paul Balmer, Elizabeth Catlett, Joe Ciardiello, Pat Cummings, Leo & Diane Dillon, Elton Fax, Tom Feelings, Paul Goodnight, Brad Holland, Bruce Holwerda, Anita Kunz, E.B. Lewis, Charles Lilly, Marvin Mattelson, Don Miller, Kadir Nelson, C.F. Payne, Jerry Pinkney, Ivan Powell, James Ransome, Reynold Ruffins (co-founder of Pushpin Studios in New York City), Yuko Shimizu, Will Terry, Murray Tinkleman, Laura Wheeler Waring, Charles White and James Yang.
