I've been passionate about drawing from a very young age. I like creating moods in my work with subtle textures and the occasional absence of some of the little details, thus allowing the viewers imagination to complete the drawing. I love the seemingly empty shadows that using pencil allows me to create.

Over the years I've been inspired by artists and illustrators whose style and creative process I admire. And, while their drawing styles may not be present in my work, I am influenced by their use of color, artistic styles and use of such mediums as pencil, charcoal, pastels, acrylic, oil, watercolor and gouache paints. Some of these artist include: Marshall Arisman, John Biggers, Thomas Blackshear, Yvonne Buchanan, A.M. Cassandre (Art Deco), Mary Cassatt, Elizabeth Catlett, Joe Ciardiello, Pat Cummings, Leo & Diane Dillon, Elton Fax, Tom Feelings, Paul Goodnight, Brad Holland, Bruce Holwerda, Anita Kunz, E.B. Lewis, Charles Lilly, Marvin Mattelson, Don Miller, Kadir Nelson, C.F. Payne, Jerry Pinkney, Ivan Powell, James Ransome, Reynold Ruffins (co-founder of Pushpin Studios in New York City), Yuko Shimizu, Will Terry, Murray Tinkleman, Laura Wheeler Waring, Charles White and James Yang.
